A letter from Kaeya...

THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED AND IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE---YOURS TRULY, KAEYA” is a fanzine dedicated to Kaeya Alberich from Genshin Impact. It aims to explore Kaeya’s character and relationships by portraying his travels throughout Teyvat. The zine aims to include a variety of characters Kaeya interacts with in canon, but also many of those we don’t commonly see him written and drawn alongside. The zine is canon verse in nature (no AUs), but takes Kaeya on a journey through Mondstadt and beyond, so that we may see him in a variety of new environments. The zine will contain fics, art, two-page comics, and an additional handbook featuring field notes and accompanying art. This zine is SFW.

faq

What is a zine?

A zine in this specific context, ex. a “fanzine/fan magazine”, is typically centered around a fandom, a character, a theme, etc. It can contain a variety of content such as art, writing, and merchandise.

I don’t quite get the theme… how does it work?

We chose ‘connections and travel’ in order to have an overarching theme, while also keeping in mind that Kaeya is known for his vast network. ‘Connections and travel’ allows us to create a continuous journey throughout the zine’s content so that readers feel as if they have joined Kaeya on his various missions across Teyvat.

Is this zine for-profit or for-charity?

This is a for-profit zine.

Will the zine be physical or digital?

The zine will be physical with merch and a digital zine. Digital merch may be available depending on interest check and applications.

Will you be taking intern mods?

We will not be taking intern mods.

Can I apply for more than one position?

You may! However, you will only be accepted for one of these.

Will ships be allowed?

All content will be platonic.

If physical, what location is the zine shipped from?

USA

Will you be shipping internationally?

Yes, but please note that with COVID-19 we are expecting significant delays in production and shipping. International shipping may require additional time. Some restrictions may apply depending on COVID regulations. We will provide consistent updates as needed on our Twitter.

Are there any requirements for applying as a contributor?

Applicants must be above the age of 18 by the time applications open.

Will artists and writers be allowed to collaborate?

Absolutely! There will be a collaboration channel available in the Discord server once pitching starts.

How will the zine communicate? Are there requirements?

All contributors are expected to submit information and check-ins via the Discord server. Please make sure you have a Discord at the time of application.

How will contributors be compensated?

Contributors and Mods will receive a full physical bundle for participating in the project. Our priority is to cover all production costs for our contributing team with revenue from our sales. In the event we do not break even, our team is fully prepared to cover physical production costs for those bundles. The next priority is to ensure that mailing costs to contributors are covered by sales revenue. We may ask that contributors chip in for part of the mailing cost of bundles, but contributors are in no way expected to pay to produce a physical copy of their work.*Once all production and mailing costs are accounted for, any profit that remains will be distributed evenly between the full contributing team (including mods).

What is that round bird…?

That’s our logo and mascot, (Pavo) Petunia! She loves attention.

guidelines

page artists

  • Page Artists must submit what they consider their 3 best works using file upload.

  • One of the uploaded samples MUST be of Kaeya.

  • Page Artists must submit a portfolio containing 5-15 completed pieces.

  • Please tag gore/violence/etc. properly in the provided section.

  • While your application samples may not include NSFW samples, if your portfolio includes them, please put them in a separate, named folder or section of your portfolio.

  • Ships presented in portfolio/sample pieces will not affect acceptance chances, including RPF.

  • Comic Artist Applications will require at least one sample piece centered around Kaeya, as well ONE example of previous comic work, to be submitted.

  • Pitches are required for those applying as comic artists.

writers

  • Writers must submit 3 samples between 1,500 - 2,500 words.

  • One of these samples MUST be from Kaeya’s POV, third-person, as this is the format fics will be written for the zine. One sample must be a completed fic within 1,500-2,500 words. This can be the same fic.

  • A journal-style sample is not required, but helpful.

  • SUBMITTING A PORTFOLIO IS OPTIONAL. Google Drive folders are preferred, but your portfolio can also be an AO3 link. Please note that samples read from portfolios are chosen at random.

  • Please tag according to the content warnings list outlined at the end of the Info Doc.

  • While your application may not include NSFW samples, if your portfolio includes them, please put them in a separate, named folder or section in your portfolio.

  • Pitches are not required for the main fic pieces, but writers are required to pitch for their handbook piece. You are required to submit a pitch for the handbook. It can be a brief idea of what you would like to write for the handbook if accepted. 1-3 sentences is great, but if you want to go into more detail, feel free to!

  • Ships presented in portfolio/sample pieces will not affect acceptance chances, including RPF.

merch artists

  • Merch Artists must submit what they consider their 3 best works using file upload. These can be both photos of hard merch or examples of other art.

  • One Kaeya sample is required. It does not have to be a physical piece of merch – a sketch or mockup is acceptable.

  • Merch Artists must submit their portfolio of anywhere between 5-15 completed pieces. Your portfolio can be a link to your shop.

  • Please tag according to the content warnings list outlined at the end of the Info Doc.

  • Ships presented in portfolio/sample pieces will not affect acceptance chances, including RPF.

expectations

page artists

  • Page Artists will create either one full single page or two-page illustration centered around Kaeya, in CMYK color. Two-page spread illustrations will act as “dividers”, separating themed sections of the zine.

  • Page Artist Applications will require at least one sample piece centered around Kaeya (either as the main focus or as a prominent character). Pitches are also very welcomed for page artists, but not required.

  • Comic Artists will each create a two-page comic (a spread), centered around Kaeya.

  • Comic Artist Applications will require at least one sample piece centered around Kaeya, as well as examples of previous comic work, to be submitted. Pitches are required for those applying as comic artists.

  • __ Templates will be made available.__

writers

  • Please note some of the specific specs for the letter/journal pieces will be decided using interest check results.

  • Each writer will create one prose piece at 2,000 - 2,500 words, in addition to one journal piece at 250 - 400 words (unrelated or related to their prose piece based on preference). All written pieces will be from Kaeya’s POV.

  • The goal of the journal entries is to provide a smaller side zine called “The Cavalry Captain’s Handbook”, as mentioned in Kaeya’s teapot dialogue (not by name). The Handbook’s production will depend on interest check results.

  • The 'handbook' or 'guidebook' piece will be an informal journal entry centered around collectibles, places, monsters, and similar, meant to serve as an informative piece, and will be accompanied by splash art. Additional details will be finalized between writers and the writing moderators. This is a separate, smaller book, not part of the main zine book.

  • Formatting guides will be made available.

merch artists

  • Merch Artists will be assigned 1-3 pieces depending on complexity. Please note some of your assigned items might be stretch goals.

  • Final files must be in .PDF format; CMYK color, and 350 DPI.

  • Templates will be made available.
